How do I add 10% GST?
Multiply the amount before GST by 0.10 to find the tax, then add it to the original amount. A $100 price becomes $110 including $10 GST.
How do I remove GST from a total?
For an amount that includes 10% GST, divide the total by 11 to find the GST. Subtract that GST from the total. A $110 total contains $10 GST and $100 before tax.
Why not just subtract 10%?
GST is 10% of the price before tax, not 10% of the final total. Removing 10% from $110 gives $99. The correct amount before GST is $100.
Can I use this for any invoice or receipt?
The calculator defaults to 10% Australian GST and assumes the entire amount is taxable. You can edit the rate for a custom calculation; this does not change Australia’s GST rate. For documents with mixed tax treatments, use our invoice maker.
